Avalon Fotheringham is curator of the Victoria and Albert Museum’s collection of South Asian textiles and dress. Trained as a textile artist, she studied the History of Design at the Royal College of Art before taking up the role of exhibition research assistant on The Fabric of India exhibition at the V&A in 2014, and finally the post of curator of the V&A’s South Asian textile collections in 2016. Her recent research work includes investigations into the early history of synthetic dye use in India and the administrative structures underpinning the collection of Indian textiles for nineteenth century exhibitions (including research undertaken as a Nehru Trust India Travel awardee). Her latest publication, The Indian Textile Sourcebook: Patterns and Techniques (V&A/T&H) was released in March of 2019.
